Patrick Hawks is a textile & polymer chemist serving as the Director of R&D at Glen Raven Inc. in Burlington, NC. Glen Raven manufactures Sunbrella® performance fabrics for a variety of end uses, most notably, awnings, marine covers, and outdoor patio furnishings. A member of AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists & Colorists) since college, Patrick holds B.S. and Masters of Textiles degrees in Textile Chemistry from North Carolina State University’s College of Textiles. Named in five patents, Patrick has been responsible for textile product development and chemical manufacturing for six textile mills, with experience creating fabrics for home, apparel, upholstery, automotive, industrial, outdoor, marine, military, protective, composite, and aerospace end uses. As Director, it is Patrick’s responsibility to evaluate and activate AI-enhanced resources to advance the technical work at Glen Raven.

James started his career in the FMCG industry, working on globally recognized brands and developing new products. As a Scientist, James supported the launch of multiple products across personal care, specialty cleaners and laundry care. In management, James oversaw groups of highly trained scientists, solving problems, creating new products and managing aggressive timelines. He took his experience into the healthcare infection control space, where he championed the development of clinically relevant antiseptics and breakthrough surface disinfectants. Today, James leads the innovations team at Microban. He is responsible for the discovery, invention and production of new treatments across a wide range of industries. While he loves the science of Microbiology, James considers himself an inventor and disrupter.
